Walk A Mile in Her Shoes – 2010
I can think of no better way to kick off the Domestic Violence Awareness Month then to take part in a fund raiser that benefits victims of domestic violence!
What began as a wet stormy day gave way to a break in the clouds just as the event was to commence. Before the walk began we heard from various community leaders about the important role the YWCA and Becky’s House play in the San Diego community-serving countless victims of domestic violence year in and year out.
The individuals working in prevention spend countless hours providing necessary intervention, education, and shelter. Without the dedication to ending domestic violence on the parts of all the leaders within San Diego, victims would have no where to turn.
The speeches were finished with a crowd cheered vote for the best shoe worn by a man…
and the winner
was, the fire-fighter
pictured here,
we did over hear
one of the volunteers
say…
“I thought this was a “best shoe” contest…”
Moments later the walk was underway!
The crowd was filled with team spirit cheering one another on and buoyed by the claps from all the people we passed in the streets!
The men were incredible sports-feet squished into shoes that in many cases bore a 6 inch heel!
Our own team was divided we had the heels and the sneakers…but no matter what shoes people wore, the mission of creating awareness was accomplished!
Team Tornado Warning met our goal by raising $200.00 for the YWCA-not bad for a first year team! Next year? We are recruiting the men in our life…and we all look forward to it! Thanks YWCA and Becky’s House, we had a blast!

Thank you Team Tornado Warning! We really appreciate everything that you are doing not only to raise awareness about the issue of domestic violence in our community but to help local programs like the YWCA Becky’s House to continue to work with survivors and their children! Hope that we will get to see you all again very soon! 🙂
